Dino-Software is pleased to announce Version 5 Release 2 of XTINCT is now ready for general distribution.
Available in this release:

- Functionality to aide daily data center operations
- Data security is an integral concern for companies every day as they back up sensitive disk or tape data such as payroll, credit card, health care, etc. Once a newer version is created, the older version is generally released and tapes and disk space can be released for re-use. Typically, when day-to-day operations delete a disk data set, they simply remove the pointer to that data set in the disks table of contents, but the data is still there until it is overwritten. For tapes, if a data set occupied 54 tapes and the data set is deleted, the data still exists on ALL of those tapes until they are reused. XTINCT can erase that data by volume serial number (disk or tape) or by Data Set Name. If a data set exists on disk that has multiple extents and/or multiple volumes, XTINCT can call in and erase all extents on all volumes and erase them by simply supplying the data set name.
VSAM and non-VSAM features:
- Support for all 3390 type disks, including EAV volumes
- Erase entire disks with a Hardware erase
- Erase disks with one, two, or three overwrites on every track
- Force de-stage from disk cache to ensure all data is written to disk

XTINCT meets DOD standards for erase
XTINCT meets all the requirements of US Department of Defense 5220.22-M (Clearing and Sanitization Matrix for Clearing Magnetic Disk) by overwriting all addressable locations with a single character. XTINCT also meets the sanitization requirement by overwriting all addressable locations with a character, its complement, then a random character and verifying. For tapes, the DoD only considers degaussing or pulverizing the tape to be a valid erase. XTINCT meets the requirements of most users by overwriting the tape and use of the hi-speed data security erase patterns.
