T-REX Catalog Split/Merge Projects

Services personnel will provide planning and implementation assistance for catalog merge/split activities. These activities could be related to LPAR, storage complex or data center merges or consolidations. Growth by acquisition and parallel sysplex implementation are among the common larger scale projects that require attention to the end state catalog configurations. Focus will be on the catalog configuration. This would include many of the standardization analysis points with a focus on the number, sizes and content of the final catalog configuration. Planning and implementation options would include:

  • Catalog names
  • Catalog sizes
  • Catalog placement
  • VSAM allocation parameters (imbed, replicate, buffer space, etc.)
  • # of aliases in each catalog
  • # of associated data set entries in each catalog
  • Identifying unused aliases and GDG bases

Given the variances in size and complexity of differing catalog configurations, the merge process could cover extended timelines. Services personnel can work as dedicated project or in conjunction with customer staff to accomplish all needed tasks.
