UDM Latest Release Highlights

 z/OS ENTERPRISE STORAGE MANAGEMENT

Universal Data Manager (UDM) is a GUI based solution for managing an organization’s z/OS Storage at an Enterprise level, including, Tape Robots and Tape Catalogs, DFSMShsm, CA-Disk, ICF Catalogs, DASD Volumes, DFSMS objects, Spool data and other related objects. The overall ease of installation and automated analysis provides the controls, information and reporting needed to manage the dynamics of modern Storage environments.  UDM provides a consolidated global view of the enterprise Storage environment, extending Automation, Auditing, Monitoring, Reporting and Control Functions of data with a mouse click. It is the easiest tool to install and the most user friendly utility in the market.

UDM is the only tool needed to manage the challenges and complexities of the forever increasing amount of storage connected to z/OS systems. Before UDM, this growth had resulted in essential tasks, such as Audits, being deferred, and fundamental tasks, such as initializing volumes, being performed with compromised control, thereby increasing the risk and likelihood of errors.

New Features with UDM 2.1

·         CA Disk support

Support added to report on CA-Disk Archive Volumes and Archive Versions.

Interaction with the Command and JCL interface provides a simple process for generated CA-Disk control cards to perform actions such as recovering from an Archive version.

·         Oracle Tape Robots support

Support added to report on Oracle Tape Robots and VTSS Servers.

Using the integrated drill down technology, performing otherwise cumbersome tasks such as displaying which VTVs reside on an MVC volume require a simple mouse click.

·         DFSMShsm support

Support added to report on DFSMShsm objects.

Information on Backup, Dump and Migration objects, as well as status information such as DFSMShsm function status, can be obtained from multiple DFSMShsm environments in a single request.

·         DFSMSrmm support

Support added to report on DFSMSrmm Volumes and Datasets.

Using the SQL features within the Reporting interface, the ability to create summary reports such as Volume usage by date or Volumes reporting errors is vastly simplified.

·         TSO Command support

Command interface enhanced to support TSO commands by prefixing the command with TSO.

·         Fetch Only SQL Function support

Additional SQL control object added to allow only the first specified number of rows within a report to be returned.

Key Features in UDM

Quick and Easy Installation

The quick and simple installation process ensures obtaining the benefits of powerful UDM features in minutes rather than weeks:

Unlike existing offerings, UDM integrates into an existing security setup. Just having a RACF TSO userid on the required system controls and permits access to UDM.

Enterprise Level Management

Using the GUI interface, a user has access to all Systems in their Enterprise from a single window and no longer has to logon to each System or Sysplex to perform tasks.

Command and JCL Management

Management of Commands and JCL is now at the Enterprise level, rather than each user having their own sample JCL or Command libraries on each System.

Simple yet Comprehensive Reporting

Reports using SQL filtering are generated, saved, and submitted to multiple Systems/Sysplexes in a single request, and output from all systems is returned in a single GUI window.

Integrated Automation and Monitoring

Powerful Message trapping and scheduling features ensure the ability to automate Storage management, as required.
